A wind advisory has been extended for Hawaii County through 6 p.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu.

Northeast winds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph, are forecast, according to the service. The windiest conditions are expected around Kona and Kohala, as well as northern areas of the Ka’u District.

The advisory covers all of Hawaii Island, however, forecasters specifically noted the following areas: Kailua-Kona, Milolii, South Point, Pahala, Hilo, Volcano, Honokaa, Waimea and Waikoloa.

Motorists, especially those in high-profile vehicles, are urged to drive with caution.
